FFP Theatre Classes

Calling all actors, dancers, directors & folks who aspire to be! The Fort Findlay Playhouse is offering classes in the following theatre disciplines to anyone 18 years and older:

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Acting 101– Participants of the course will cultivate a foundational knowledge of some very widely-used acting methods, improv skills, monologue work and building scene partner skills throughout the duration of the course. We will also explore techniques used to support the performers wellbeing.
Acting Through Song In this course, participants will have the opportunity to explore the acting skills used to dissect and perform a song from musical theatre. We will also be learning vocal skills to strengthen the voice and breath system.
Audition Workshop– Each workshop will be tailored to the closest auditions listed at the Fort Findlay Playhouse. Participants will be taught the skills needed to have a successful audition experience in preparation for the audition. Depending on the audition in question, time will be spent on selecting appropriate music and monologue material, learning basic dance moves to build knowledge and confidence in dance, and explore acting choices that can be made while participating in cold readings.
Choreography 101Participants will not only learn how to choreograph for musical theatre standard, but a variety of musical styles that are being used on the stage nowadays. We will explore what it means to research choreography to inspire and influence our creative decisions, as well as explore the use of storytelling as a central element of choreography in musical theatre.
Directing 101– Participants will learn how to analyze a script from multiple angles, explore how blocking is more than just moving from one spot to another, and how to dive into character development with an actor. We will also explore the use of theme and vision when directing a show, and how to collaborate with actors and the production team.
Musical Theatre Dance– This course will be offered for adults to grow in their abilities of dance styles commonly found on the stage. Such styles include the basics of lyrical, jazz, modern, Broadway and ballroom dance.
